Towson physicians opposed bill to change the state law-requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets Monday.

The Maryland Legislature is considering a bill that would change the state law-requiring motorcyclist to wear helmets.

Fifty Towson physicians all attend the gathering. The physicians were from John Hopkins University Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Greater Baltimore Medical center. Also over a hundred other healthcare workers attended the meeting.

“The doctors have gotten nearly four hundred signatures so far on the petition and hope to have at least five hundred by the time they send it to the legislature. The number of serious head injuries caused by motorcycle accidents in Maryland is over 70% less now then when the helmet law was adopted 25 years ago,” said Dr. Sodergreen.

The bill is to be considered by the legislature next Wednesday.

During the press conference a two-vehicle crash occurred ironically one person was riding a motorcycle.

19-year-old Grady Smith suffered from a broken arm, and ribs from the accident.

“Smith’s injuries would have been much worst if he had not been wearing a helmet,” said Smith’s doctor.


Proofreading helped me with one of my other papers more than it did with this. I am sure that when my news story is finished I will understand the steps more in the newspaper way. I really think that slowing down and reading it more than once really helped me. I also really think that walking away helped me a lot. It got my mind off the paper and more into other things, so when I came back to look at it that was not the last thing my mind was on. I think these proofreading steps will help me a lot from now on.
